Ami is not doing well and I just wanted to share. Thursday she was supposed to go in for follow up x-rays for probable osteocarcoma. She also has something very common where she has lost a lot of sensation in her back half (mark doesn't remember the name, we were going to ask more on Thursday). She has had a steady limp which is what led us to the vet. But now this morning she can't put hardly any weight on that same leg (front left). So we are hoping to take her in today for an earlier recheck than planned. She hasn't whined or anything this whole time. And of course she got a big scrape on her back leg in the middle of this, so she is limping on the front with a bandage on the back.

The news at the vet was ok! We think she must have banged/bruised the part of her leg that has the bone cancer, so with some stronger pain meds she might be back to the minor limp soon. The back end problem is Degenerative Myelopathy but she's probably had that for awhile and is really coping pretty well with that. So I think Tali Amelie is going to be with us for at least a few more weeks, maybe even months. Her bones don't look like they are close to breaking easily or anything.

Sorry to hear that your Amelie has osteo, such a awful disease, but happy to hear that she is fairing well.
Time to spoil her as much as possible I think.
Sending hugs for you and Amelie.

So sorry to hear the diagnosis, but I'm glad you get a little more time with her. Cherish all of those moments and take lots of pictures.

Unfortunately the limp has not improved at all. There are still some good moments, but movement looks so painful. Of course Ami still hasn't whined and is quite accepting of her limitations, but I think we are nearing the end for her. Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Thank you again for your words and thoughts. We said goodbye to Ami this morning...it was so hard to let her go but we could tell it was no longer a good greyhound life. I love to picture our silly/scaredy pup zipping free, with no loud noises or people telling her to stop eating plants!

I'm so sorry!!! Just know that she is now pain- and limp-free, and romping joyfully in doggie heaven.

I am so sorry for your loss of Amelie. Run fast and free as the wind Sweet Girl.
One of the hardest decisions we have to make as pet parents but a promise we make to keep them pain free.
